Description
Schluter-DITRA-HEAT-DUO integrates the characteristics of the DITRA membrane into the customizable and comfortable underfloor heating system: uncoupling, waterproofing, vapor management and support, which allows for long-lasting installations. DITRA-HEAT-DUO includes an integrated felt, which reduces heat loss in the substrate during temperature rise requests, accelerates the response time of the heated floor, and reduces impact noise in floor-ceiling assemblies.
Sound attenuation
Attenuating impact sound in floor-to-ceiling assemblies in multi-story buildings can present challenges, particularly when ceramic and natural stone tiles are used. Additionally, sound attenuation materials tend to compact, and some do not provide adequate support for the tiles. However, the DITRA-HEAT-DUO membrane reduces sound propagation, while accommodating the tiled covering, which allows the creation of durable installations.
Heating floor
DITRA-HEAT-DUO combines the advantages of a free cable with the simplicity of installing a membrane. The heating cables can be arranged as desired, without creating a difference in height in the floor. In addition, there is no need to cover the cables with self-leveling, which makes installation much faster and easier.
Uncoupling
For thousands of years, tiles have been successfully produced by integrating a detaching or shear stress-absorbing layer. DITRA-HEAT-DUO ensures separation thanks to its geometric configuration, allowing horizontal movements, which effectively neutralize the constraints of differential movement between the substrate and the ceramic tile, the main cause of cracking and separation of tiles.
Waterproofing
DITRA-HEAT-DUO constitutes a reliable sealing system. Its polypropylene composition protects the substrate from humidity, which is particularly important today since most substrates used in buildings are sensitive to humidity.
Steam management
Gaps under the DITRA-HEAT-DUO membrane allow excess moisture and vapor to escape from the substrate – otherwise tile coverings may be damaged. Therefore, the DITRA-HEAT-DUO membrane provides effective moisture management under the ceramic tile covering.
Load support/distribution
When placed on a solid foundation, columns and pillars can support enormous loads. The same principles of physics apply to installations made with the DITRA-HEAT-DUO membrane. Columnar mortar structures are formed on and between the studs of the membrane surface. Thus, the load is transferred from the tiles to the substrate by these structures. As the DITRA-HEAT-DUO membrane is virtually incompressible in the tiled assembly, it offers the advantages of uncoupling without compromising load distribution.
Various floor coverings with DITRA-HEAT
DITRA-HEAT is suitable for applications incorporating engineered wood, vinyl, wood-plastic composite (WPC), luxury floating vinyl tile (LVT) or plank (LVP), stone composite ( SPC) in tiles or planks, as well as laminate flooring. See the technical bulletin for the use of various coatings with DITRA-HEAT for more information, including requirements and limitations.
