Description
Schluter-DITRA-HEAT integrates the features of the DITRA membrane, such as uncoupling, waterproofing, vapor management and support, into the customizable and comfortable electric floor heating system, which allows for long-lasting installations.
Heating floor
DITRA-HEAT combines the advantages of a free cable with the simplicity of laying a membrane. You can arrange the heating cables as desired, without creating any unevenness in the floor. In addition, it is not necessary to cover the cables with a self-leveler, which greatly speeds up and facilitates the installation.
Dissociation
For thousands of years, tiles have been successfully produced by the integration of a layer of uncoupling or absorbing shear stresses. DITRA-HEAT provides uncoupling through its geometric configuration, allowing for horizontal movement, which effectively counteracts differential movement stresses between the substrate and the tile, the primary cause of tile cracking and peeling.
Waterproofing
DITRA-HEAT is a reliable waterproofing system. Its polypropylene composition protects the substrate from moisture, which is especially important today since most substrates used in buildings are sensitive to moisture.
Steam management
Void spaces under the DITRA-HEAT membrane allow excess moisture and vapor to escape from the substrate – otherwise tile coatings may be damaged. Therefore, the DITRA-HEAT membrane effectively manages moisture under the tile covering.
Load support/distribution
When placed on a solid foundation, columns and pillars can support enormous loads. The same principles of physics apply to installations made with the DITRA-HEAT membrane. Columnar structures of mortar are formed on and between the studs of the membrane surface. Thus, the load is transferred from the tile to the substrate by these structures. Because DITRA-HEAT is virtually incompressible in the tile assembly, it offers the benefits of uncoupling without compromising load distribution.
Various floor coverings with DITRA-HEAT
DITRA-HEAT is suitable for applications incorporating engineered wood, vinyl, wood-plastic composite (WPC), luxury vinyl laminate in tile (LVT) or plank (LVP), stone composite ( SPC) in tiles or planks, as well as laminate floors. See the technical bulletin on the use of various coatings with DITRA-HEAT for more information, including requirements and limitations.
