Description
Schluter-DITRA-HEAT integrates into the customizable and comfortable electric floor heating system the characteristics of the DITRA membrane, i.e. uncoupling, waterproofing, steam management and support, which allows for sustainable installations.
Heated floor
DITRA-HEAT combines the advantages of a free cable with the simplicity of installing a membrane. The heating cables can be arranged as desired, without creating a difference in height in the floor. In addition, there is no need to cover the cables with self-leveling, making installation much faster and easier.
Decoupling
For thousands of years, tiling has been successfully produced by integrating a detaching or shear stress-absorbing layer. DITRA-HEAT ensures separation thanks to its geometric configuration, allowing horizontal movements, which effectively neutralize the constraints of differential movement between the substrate and the tiles, the main cause of cracking and separation of tiles.
Waterproofing
DITRA-HEAT provides a reliable waterproofing system. Its polypropylene composition protects the substrate from humidity, which is particularly important today since most substrates used in buildings are sensitive to humidity.
Steam management
Void spaces under the DITRA-HEAT membrane allow excess moisture and vapor to escape from the substrate – otherwise tile coverings may be damaged. Therefore, the DITRA-HEAT membrane effectively manages humidity under the tiled covering.
Load support/distribution
When placed on a solid foundation, columns and pillars can support enormous loads. The same principles of physics apply to installations made with the DITRA-HEAT membrane. Columnar mortar structures are formed on and between the studs of the membrane surface. Thus, the load is transferred from the tiles to the substrate by these structures. As the DITRA-HEAT membrane is virtually incompressible in the tiled assembly, it offers the advantages of uncoupling without compromising load distribution.
Various floor coverings with DITRA-HEAT
DITRA-HEAT is suitable for applications incorporating engineered wood, vinyl, wood-plastic composite (WPC), luxury floating vinyl and tile cladding (LVT) or planks (LVP), stone composite (SPC) tiles or planks, as well as laminate flooring. See the technical bulletin for the use of various coatings with DITRA-HEAT for more information, including requirements and limitations.
