Schluter-SCHIENE is designed to provide edging for ceramic tile coverings. Typical applications include edge protection where tiles are carpeted, at expansion joints, or as a decorative edge for stairs. SCHIENE is available in stainless steel, solid brass, aluminum and anodized aluminum. SCHIENE is also available in color coated textured aluminum finishes, which are suitable for floor installations in residential applications only. The profile features a trapezoidal perforated anchor fin, which is fixed into the mortar layer beneath the tile, and an 87° inclined vertical wall section that transfers point loads to the substrate and surface covering while protecting the tile edges from damage. SCHIENE, in solid brass, aluminum, textured colored aluminum and anodized aluminum, features a 5° inclined top flange and fillet at the anchor leg/vertical section interface to improve edge protection by reducing stress on the tile, and, in sizes larger than 6mm (1/4"), an integrated joint spacer which establishes a defined joint cavity between the tile and the profile. The anchor fin of SCHIENE, in all materials, is available with a special "R" radius perforation so that the profile can be used to form curves.
