The Schluter-DITRA and DITRA-XL membrane is specially designed for ceramic tiles and natural stone. It provides a separation function which prevents cracking of tiles and grout. Made of polyethylene, the DITRA and DITRA-XL membrane serves as a waterproofing layer protecting moisture-sensitive substrates, such as plywood/OSB. Gaps under the membrane allow excess moisture and vapor to escape from the substrate – otherwise the tile could be damaged. The DITRA and DITRA-XL membrane fulfills all of these functions, in addition to adequately supporting and distributing the load of the tile covering.
